How To Force Yourself To Take Action

just do it

Are you trapped in the miserable state of knowing what to do but not being able to do it?

Do you find yourself avoiding the actions that will make you successful instead of being a BOSS and doing what you need to do?

To be honest with you, I have my days where I avoid the path to success and instead I move towards the path of least resistance.

However, I’m able to detect when I’m making excuses and shying away from taking the right actions and I check myself before I wreck myself.

I’m going to let you know what you can do to force yourself to do what you need to do even when you don’t feel like doing it.

Don’t Think Just Do

The problem that you’re having is that you’re thinking about a situation that shouldn’t require any thought.

Do you think to yourself whether or not you should breathe air?

Do you think to yourself whether or not you should drink water?

Do you think to yourself whether you should eat food?

Of course not because you already know that there is nothing to think about.

Your mood doesn’t determine whether or not you breathe air.

Your mood doesn’t determine whether or not you eat or drink.

Your decision to do those things are based on what will make you successful.

In that case, “successful” would be another word for survival.

If you want to survive then you have to eat, drink, and breathe daily.

If you decided to think each time you had to take a breath, that would be a waste of time because the answer to whether you should breathe or not is pretty obvious.

Whenever you have to do something that you don’t necessarily feel like doing but you know you need to do it, you shouldn’t even think about any other options.

Just do what you need to do and don’t spend anytime thinking about it.

When you think about something, you give yourself time to make excuses, get emotional, and avoid the truth.

Stop thinking about things that you already know the answer to.

What is the point of thinking about whether or not you should hit the gym, if you already know that the right answer is to hit the gym.

Why think about whether or not you should approach a woman you find attractive if you know that the right answer is to approach her.

When you find yourself contemplating on whether or not you should do something, even when you know deep down that you need to do it……….stop, close your eyes, and clear your mind.

Stop thinking, and do what you must do.

Make a daily effort to stop yourself before you start making excuses and stop yourself from letting your fears and doubts take control of you.

Don’t Think!

Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is

If my “Don’t Think” principle doesn’t work for you, then another option is to put some skin in the game.

Go to the website stickk.com and place a significant amount of money on the line.

If you don’t do what you’re supposed to do, stickk.com will send your money to a friend or a charity that you dislike.

So, in order to make this work you will need a trustworthy friend or family member who will hold you accountable for doing what you’re supposed to do.

If you don’t do what you’re supposed to do, your friend will be asked to tell stick.com whether you did what you said you were going to do, and if your friend says that you didn’t do it, he/she will be rewarded with the money you put on the line, or the money will be sent to a charity you dislike.

So, I recommend you place a large amount of money that actually makes you nervous and extremely motivated to take the action you need to take.

Accountability Partner/Coach

If you have the funds to hire a personal accountability/performance coach, I highly recommend it. You will have two forms of motivation attached to hiring an accountability coach.

First, you will be motivated because you spent a significant amount of money on the coach, so you will want to get as much value out of your investment as possible, and second you will have a professional holding you accountable each day/week which will motivate you to do what you’re supposed to do.

The other option would be to choose a family member or friend to be your accountability coach. This works well if your partner is somebody who will be tough on you and make sure you take the actions you say you will take. You can also make friendly bets with your partner to increase the motivation to do what you need to do.
